New Year, Better Home Security
With the new year comes a chance for new beginnings and an opportunity to do things better, and most importantly, safely. One area that we can all improve drastically is the home security front. Over the year, we start to relax and let some things around the house go. The start of a new year is the perfect time to re-examine if you’re still safe.
Here are a few areas you might want to have a closer look at:
It seems pretty obvious, but our doors are the main access points in our homes and yet probably the most neglected. Make sure they are strong and sturdy. If not all your doors have a security gate, this is the right time to make that upgrade. Call an Xpanda consultant to see which ones will be suitable for your home.
Check your door frames and hinges as well. Sometimes, wooden door frames can start to rot, making them easier to break, and if your hinges are facing the outside, they may be easy to unscrew.
Windows are the easiest access points an intruder can use to gain entry into the house. This is a good time to check if the landscaping around your home, particularly your windows, isn’t overgrown. This can be a prime hiding spot if unattended. Unprotected windows, without burglar bars, are a huge threat to your home. Check that yours are protected and the bars are still sturdy and intact.
Lastly, your alarm system is the best way to alert your security company, neighbours and even yourself that there is an intruder on the property. Check with your security company that all your emergency buttons still work, the sensors are still responding quickly and if there’s an area of your home that could do with an upgrade.
With all of these checked off the list, you can have the peace of mind of knowing you and your home are protected!
